Co-Founders Gregg Colvin and Patrick Pettay decided to combine their extensive experience working across media, entertainment, and advertising to build a social music platform that aggregates all types of music content and services into a single app. While there is a multitude of platforms available, current platforms do not allow music enthusiasts to really discover and engage with music artists and all their content. Melody Music set out to change this.

Business Case

Gregg and Patrick wanted to empower music enthusiasts, allowing them the freedom to curate feeds of music content that can be easily shared on and off the platform to their friends and followers. As their main focus was on building a unique content consumption experience, with an easily shareable interaction, the co-founders needed help communicating their product vision to investors and potential employees.

Solution

Sidebench was given a large amount of creative freedom and was heavily involved in the products strategy. Sidebench built on the original concept and used user interviews to identify three different user types; “The Utility User’ those who are influenced by peers to download and use the app, “The Power User” those who actively follow the melody community, and “The Creator User” those who build out content and seek to increase their following. Sidebench then created multiple iterations of a prototype that was validated and improved with user testing. The final product is a hub for all things music and includes the following features:

Features

  • Users can pull songs, shows, posts, articles, and pictures from across the web and generate them all in one place to keep the freshest content at their fingertips.
  • Artists are easily discovered through the smart feed, in the form of ‘drops’, multimedia and content collections such as interactive playlists, video mashups, and artist highlights.
  • Super fans can create their own personalized drops by searching over 200 thousand artist profiles for inspiration and share with friends and followers, both inside and out of the app.
