Sidebench worked with first-time founder of Get ‘Em Out LLC to utilize GPS and real-time event technology. Players bike around a user-created boundary, attempting to “tag” on another by biking within 25-30 ft of each other. With 3 game types, BikeWars is an immersive and engaging exercise game.

Challenge

  • One of the biggest challenges was to design a technical architecture that supports multiple real-time player locations and event updates quickly and accurately. One of the key areas of Discovery was focused on technical feasibility for real-time events and accurate locations. This led the team to test a proof of concept (POC) during development to assess GPS vs. Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology for registering player locations and tags. Through testing, we validated GPS’s accuracy over UWB when playing with multiple users/devices.

Solution

  • Three distinct game modes - Hunters, Team Hunters and Chain Reaction - offer players the opportunity to create unique game experiences with up to 16 players. The core “boundary creation” feature allows for players to make one-of-a-kind game maps, offering users variety every time they play.
  • Safety first! Age restriction of 16+, safety information presented prior to each game and a distance of 25-30 ft to register a tag encourages players to put their safety first and keep their distance while playing.
