Since 2013, Gamevice has been on a mission to make any device a portable gaming house. Gamevice is one of the first companies to bring traditional video games to a portable device. Their core product is a hardware controller that hooks up to an iPhone or Android device, allowing users to play supported iOS or Android games with physical controls.

Business Case

The Gamevice team recognized a need for users to be able to search for Gamevice compatible games in a centralized location. With a companion app, Gamevice would have the potential to disrupt the portable gaming market, scale their product, and provide flexible options to the gaming community beyond Nintendo.

Strategy

  • We started with a proof of concept to prove we could rebuild the existing iOS and Android interfaces in ‘Unity’, a custom rendering engine that works across iOS and Android platforms.
  • We integrated all of Gamevice’s existing gaming data on Unity and scaled the interface by building several versions to support multiple integrations.
  • Our focus was on creating a seamless user experience in order to enable users to navigate the app using either their mobile device touchscreen or their Gamevice controllers.

Solution

Gamevice Live now holds over 1,000 games compatible with the Gamevice rig. On both iOS and Android platforms, the Gamevice Live app aggregates all of the known controller compatible games available on iTunes. The app gives the user a complete list as well as options to filter by category, including free or paid titles. Now Gamevice users can explore all kinds of gaming experiences from the nostalgia of classic, decades-old games to the thrill of new hits like Fortnite.
