SXSW 2019 March 8-17

Sidebench has been working hard to ensure that our projects make an impact on our clients, our end-users, and the world at large. We have done a lot of learning over the last 6 years and have developed strategies and best practices that help us leverage our knowledge and creativity to make a positive impact. We’re eager to share our learnings, and that’s why Sidebench has submitted 3 proposals to SXSW 2019 — a conference that “cultivates and empowers a community of engaged stakeholders to advance teaching and learning.”

You can learn more about our proposals below. Please take a moment to register for SXSW Panel Picker voting and cast your vote for our workshops.

Equitable Design for Person With Disabilities

While disabilities come in many varieties, adults with developmental disabilities are often overlooked – last year, we designed a workshop aimed at assisting members of the tech community to understand the needs of adults with developmental disabilities – the goal is to equip innovators with the knowledge and tools to test products with this community. Come learn how you can easily incorporate these methods into your own toolbox, and help us create a world of more equitable tech for all.

Bridging the Gap Between Public & Private Sectors

Los Angeles County has one of the largest foster care systems in the country, serving nearly 30,000 youth through the Department of Child and Family Services. Last year, LA County DCFS led the #hackfostercare Initiative -a day-long hackathon that drew innovators, advocates, private foundations, and community leaders from the Los Angeles Community to work together and design powerful ideas to improve the LA Foster Care System. A year later the initiative is still going strong: multiple solutions were conceived, designed, and are now being implemented. This panel will focus not just on the story of how LA County achieved the momentum and partnerships required to solve some of its toughest problems, but what other municipalities and counties can do to create similarly successful initiatives.
